Going out on the Bay of Arcachon: must-see places between La Teste de Buch and Le Pyla!
DISCOVER ARCACHON LIFE
Welcome to the Bay of Arcachon! An iconic destination on France's Atlantic coast, famous for its picturesque landscapes, rich maritime culture and exceptional culinary heritage... If you're visiting one of the properties for sale offered by our agency and are looking for an authentic and varied experience to discover your future living environment. We can also point you in the right direction to discover the hidden treasures of the Bay of Arcachon.
The Dune du Pilat :
This spectacular sand mountain is almost 500 metres wide and rises to over 100 metres above sea level. Climbing to the top offers breathtaking views of the Bay of Arcachon on one side and the Atlantic Ocean on the other.
Visits can be made all year round and there are no opening hours.
The main car park for safe and easy access is located just off the roundabout near the dune.
It is from here that you can access the staircase to the top, which is installed during the season (April to November).
The car park charges between €6 and €12 in high season and between €1 and €6 out of season, for parking between 4 hours and 12 hours.
Good to know: parking between 2am and 5am is prohibited and liable to a fine of 50 euros.
A word of advice: arrive early to enjoy this natural spectacle without being swamped by the summer crowds!
The Banc d'Arguin:
Just off the Dune du Pilat lies the Banc d'Arguin, a nature reserve and birdwatcher's paradise. Thousands of migratory birds find refuge here, offering visitors a unique opportunity to observe species such as terns, oystercatchers and spoonbills in their natural habitat. Hire a boat for an afternoon and head out!
You can also take the UBA boats, which usually run between Arcachon and the Banc d'Arguin during the summer season from June to September.
The frequency of departures varies according to demand.
The price of a return UBA trip is around €10.
The Port of La Teste-de-Buch:
Looking to immerse yourself in the maritime and oyster-farming atmosphere of the Bay of Arcachon? Visit the Port de la Teste-de-Buch. This charming fishing port is lined with colourful huts where fishermen sell their fresh catch directly to visitors.
Stroll along the quays and indulge in fresh seafood by the sea!
Le Moulleau:
One of the districts of Arcachon, home to one of the most beautiful beaches, the Moulleau beach. From the Moulleau jetty, you can enjoy a breathtaking view of the Cap Ferret peninsula. Continuing inland from the jetty is the Eglise Notre-Dame Des Passes, a jewel of 19th-century architecture. Finish your visit by strolling through the alleys of one of Arcachon's most famous districts, with its sumptuous villas, not forgetting the Abatilles spring, the region's mineral water, just 3 steps away.
Don't hesitate to refresh yourself with an ice cream or sorbet after this walk!
La C(o)orniche :
To round off your exploration with a must-see visit, here's a place where you can admire a breathtaking panoramic view, with the calm waters of the basin on one side and the powerful waves of the ocean on the other. It's the perfect place to watch an unforgettable sunset, with a glass of champagne in hand!
Le Pyla and the surrounding area offer a diverse range of captivating experiences for travellers. Whether you're attracted by nature or the maritime atmosphere, there's always something to discover in this emblematic region of France's Atlantic coast.
Don't wait any longer, you won't be disappointed!
