The Cap Ferret peninsula: the legendary Bassin cabins

The authentic charm of the "Bartherotte" style cabins

The Cap Ferret peninsula: the legendary Bassin cabins

Nestling in the heart of the Cap Ferret peninsula, between the ocean and the Bay of Arcachon, the "Bartherotte cabins" are magnificent wooden houses built using ancestral techniques by Hadrien and Martin Bartherotte, two of the sons of Elisabeth and Benoit Bartherotte, the famous couple who own a fabulous estate at the tip of Cap Ferret, at the prow of the peninsula, in the front line of the defence of this heavenly site.

These 'cabanes' are more than just places to live; they are a way of life. If you're visiting one of the properties for sale at our agency, don't hesitate to take a stroll and discover the superb cabins dotted around Cap Ferret.

The essential history of the Bartherotte cottages.

The name "Bartherotte" is linked to the family of the same name. Arriving in 1984, the "Bartherotte" family built cabins on a plot of land they had acquired at the tip of the Presqu'ile, and settled in happily. The family grew... the 7 children of "Zaza" and Benoit enjoyed a unique and happy childhood. To build their huts, the family took inspiration from the cabins originally built by fishermen and oyster farmers as shelters and storage areas; the use of wide planks and pine panels was therefore an obvious choice.

Over the years, the rustic charm of these cabins and their grounds has attracted people looking for a haven of peace and a quirky, bohemian lifestyle on the Basin. In 2001, Hadrien and Martin decided to set up their own company, "Les Cabanes Bartherotte", specialising in the manufacture of made-to-measure villas built entirely from wood, using traditional building methods. It was an instant success and a "trademark" was born. We're talking about Bartherotte cabins!

A unique architectural style

Martin and Hadrien, who run the company, say: "Our cabins are modern and open to the outside world, but they are still built using traditional methods, just as they were in the 18th century, which makes them lively and endearing. When we build a site, we don't build for 10 years, we build for life. These cabins are distinguished by their architecture, which is perfectly adapted to the preserved environment of the peninsula. They stand on stilts, often on the water's edge. Their tiled roofs and wooden facades add to their authentic charm.

The use of natural materials creates a feeling of well-being and serenity; everything is built entirely to measure, and the Landes pines are chosen by Hadrien before they are cut. It's 100% "made in Bassin", where nothing is subcontracted and the wood is worked in a magnificent and respectful way.

A simple yet refined way of life

Living in a Bartherotte cabin means above all adopting a lifestyle in harmony with nature. Far from the hustle and bustle of summer, sheltered by high wooden fences, the happy owners of these cabins enjoy the peace and quiet offered by the natural woodland setting. The gardens are often designed and landscaped by Joseph Bartherotte, Martin and Hadrien's cousin, in perfect harmony with the buildings.

Everything is as gentle as it is bohemian.

A contemporary twist

"To stay as close as possible to a made-to-measure solution, we sometimes have to turn down certain projects," confides Martin Bartherotte.

With three houses built each year, the two Bartherotte brothers confess that they don't want to build too much outside the region, to keep in line with the spirit that drives them: a balanced private and professional life. Their cabins are therefore rare, and all the more precious for that. Their style has inspired many recent buildings.

It's up to you to succumb to their charm, and visit our agency in Le Canon to find the cabin that's right for you!

An unspoilt haven of peace

The Bartherotte cabins are (almost) all built on the beautiful Cap Ferret peninsula, a perfect oasis for these creations. The peninsula is careful to preserve both its identity and its fragile environment. The construction of a limited number of villas and cabins is now authorised, with strict rules governing renovation to respect traditional architecture.

Today, the population of Cap Ferret fluctuates between 8,200 in winter and 52,000 in summer.

The Presqu'île au Cap Ferret offers a calm, unspoilt environment. With its greenery and unique local assets, you'll be charmed by this place.

Looking for a peaceful holiday by the sea, surrounded by vegetation? Then this is the place for you!

Still haven't found the cabin for you? We're waiting for you at our agency in Le Canon!
